2003 Mach 1: Underated by Many

Mach 1
There is one mustang I feel is underated by many enthusiasts out on the street. A lot of car guys don’t know how good these cars can actually launch. With some slicks, suspension work, and some bolt ons you can easily get this car into the high 12s. I’ve seen quite a few LS1s get torn up by this car at the track. A lot of enthusiasts fail to realize that this mustang has a solid rear axle unlike the Cobra, which can make a whole lot of difference in a 1/4 race.

Lidio from Alternative Auto Performance has shown many enthusiasts at the track what a Mach1 can do in the 1/4 mile. I’ve heard the car is capable of high 9s, which is pretty impressive if you ask me. With those kind of numbers I’m sure he has a forged bottom end and quite bit of meat in back to hook up at the track.

It’s really sad they only made this car for 2 years, kind of like what they did with Terminator Mustang. But, I guess it was time for the new S197 Mustangs to come out. Think of it this way though, all you Mach 1 Mustang owners have to be pretty happy because the more limited they are, the more the car is worth.

My favorite aspect of the car has to be the shaker hood, it really makes the car stand out from a crowd of muscle cars out on the street. My next door neighbor had one for about 2 years, ended up trading it in because he couldn’t afford the payments. I really enjoyed waking up and looking outside and seeing that baby out on the street, he had a blue one with tinted windows. Boy did those tinted windows and the shaker hood make that car look bad ass. I loved ever bit of that car, its too bad he traded it in. The car will always be in my memories.
