Mack Rice’s Mustang Sally
One of my favorite songs to play in my Mustang is Mustang Sally of course. It is a great tune performed by a talented singer Wilson Picket. Originally the song was written by Mack Rice in 1965, I bet a lot of you didn’t know that. Can you believe that!!! 1965!!! You would never think this beautiful song would of been written that long ago, boy was it ahead of it’s time.
According to music historian Tom Shannon, the song started as a joke when Della Reese’s band leader wanted a new Ford Mustang. Rice called the early version “Mustang Mama,” but changed the title after Aretha Franklin suggested “Mustang Sally.” I thought this picture flowed well together, so I thought I’d throw it up there. She looks like a Sally and went well with the car so what the hell!
