Mustang Cobra R, One of my Favorites
I remember back in 2000 when this Mustang made it’s debut in the newspaper, I was amazed by it’s performance and sleekness. Not a lot of people like the rear spoiler on it, say it’s too ricey. I actually love it, looks good on the car. Some don’t understand this car was built for the track, the front end needs to keep down with the amount of horsepower it’s making.
The Cobra R features a 5.4L 32-valve V8 engine that makes 385 horsepower and 385 foot pounds of torque. Those stats were pretty amazing back in 2000 for a stock Mustang, some to this day think that’s a lot. In order to fit the big engine under the hood Ford had to make a very bulky hood. Thus, Ford fabricated the “power dome” hood, really sets the car of from other Mustangs I think. Brings out it’s muscle!
There were a limited production of only 300 Cobra R models built in spring 2000, on the same line of the Dearborn Assembly Plant which produces the V6, GT, and Cobra Mustangs. Last year when I was at Woodward I actually got to see one of these beasts, man did it look good. I tell you, it would really be sweet to own one of these limited edition Mustangs.
