Mustang Brakes: Choose Wisely
There are many different brakes to choose from, but you have to be really careful. Let me tell you why… First off, make sure you check your wheel offset and basic wheel measurements. That’s one of the major things you need to do first, I’ve heard of some Mustang enthusiasts picking up aftermarket brakes and finding out they don’t seem to fit well with their stock wheels or custom wheels. Also, take time to think if you are happy with your current wheels. Because if you purchase brakes now and down the road you end up getting a new set of wheels that you really really like, they may not fit with your aftermarket brakes. I do think most wheels fit with aftermarket brakes, but you better just make sure.
Second do your research! Find out if you actually need aftermarket brakes, sometimes you can just end up upgrading to stainless steel brake lines and slotted rotors. Just those minor upgrades can make one hell of a difference. Some cars like the SVT Cobra Mustang came with really powerful brakes, so something like a package of slotted rotors and steel brake lines would be perfect for that model. But, if you are a hardcore enthusiasts, you must have the whole package, please choose wisely. Look on Mustang forums and read a lot of the brake reviews. I have actually heard that some brakes can be rather noisy and aren’t as powerful and smooth as others.
This is a very critical choice because some brake packages are rather expensive. So again, please make your choise wisely and do your research. Those search buttons on forums are there for a reason!
